Partnership, support and expertise, to develop transformative insights enabling infrastructure and large-scale research projects to drive HealthTech innovation and translation

ACHIEVEMENT

On World Health Day (7th April), our research project ZeusOSA has been showcased across various NIHR HRC Network platforms, demonstrating how our HRC in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Medicine supports technologies in moving from early research into real-world NHS use.

As part of NIHR’s HRC20Stories campaign, ZeusOSA—a non-invasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), developed by Zeus Sleep Ltd and led by Prof Joerg Steier was highlighted as a success story.

OSA is a common condition with potentially serious health impacts, and while CPAP remains the standard treatment, many patients struggle to use it consistently, leaving a clear gap in care. In 2024, our NIHR HRC supported ZeusOSA through a structured development pathway—from early feasibility work and clinical studies to its current evaluation in the TESLA MICRON UK Trial.

This support brings together academic research, NHS clinical expertise, industry, and patient input to generate the evidence needed for adoption. The aim is straightforward: to determine whether a non-invasive, scalable alternative can improve adherence and outcomes for patients, and be delivered effectively within the NHS.
